RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course

What is RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is the UK’s most popular entry-level powerboating qualification and is designed to give you the practical skills and confidence needed to safely drive a powerboat. Whether you are completely new to boating or looking to build confidence on the water, this hands-on two-day course provides a solid foundation in powerboat handling, safety and seamanship.

Throughout the course you will learn how to confidently manoeuvre a powerboat at both low and high speeds, including close-quarters handling, coming alongside, man overboard recovery, anchoring and basic navigation. You will also cover essential safety topics such as the use of safety equipment, tidal awareness, collision regulations and passage planning.

Training takes place on the water with plenty of time at the helm, allowing you to develop real-world experience in a supportive and enjoyable environment. By the end of the course, successful students will receive the internationally recognised RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate, which is widely accepted for boat hire, club use and as a foundation for further powerboat training.

Next steps after Powerboat Level 2 course.

Completing the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is just the beginning of your boating journey. Once qualified, many students go on to build experience through regular boating, coastal trips and exploring new areas on the water. The certificate also opens up opportunities for boat hire in the UK and abroad, as well as acting as the foundation for more advanced training.

If your goal is to use powerboats commercially, the Powerboat Level 2 certificate can also form part of the pathway towards obtaining a Commercial Endorsement.
