RYA Advanced Powerboat Course

Take your powerboating to the next level with our RYA Advanced Powerboat Course. Designed for experienced powerboat drivers, this two-day course will develop your skills to a professional standard and prepare you for handling a boat safely and confidently in challenging conditions, by day and night.

You’ll learn advanced boat handling techniques, passage planning, and how to navigate using both traditional and electronic methods. Night navigation is a key element of the course, giving you valuable experience in reduced visibility.

On successful completion, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to skipper a powerboat on coastal passages, making this an essential qualification for anyone working towards commercial endorsements or operating powerboats professionally.

Course Content:

✅ Advanced boat handling and seamanship

✅ High-speed manoeuvres in rougher conditions

✅ Navigation and pilotage (day & night)

✅ Use of radar and electronic navigation aids

✅ Passage planning and decision making

✅ Safety, emergency procedures, and crew management

Pre-requisites:

• RYA Powerboat Level 2

• Coastal navigation knowledge (to RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster theory level)

• VHF radio licence recommended

• Minimum age: 17

Duration: 2 days (including night navigation exercise)

Certification: RYA Advanced Powerboat Certificate (with the option of a commercial endorsement).
