The RYA Day Skipper Theory course is the ideal foundation for aspiring skippers who want to take charge of a sailing yacht or motor cruiser in familiar waters during daylight hours. This comprehensive course is taught in a classroom setting and equips you with the essential knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions at sea.
You will cover key topics such as:
✅ Navigation and chartwork
✅ Tides and tidal streams
✅ Collision regulations (IRPCS)
✅ Safety and seamanship
✅ Weather and passage planning
The course runs for 5 days in our modern classrooms. The last day usually consits of 2 exams.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to plan and execute short coastal passages, understand how to interpret forecasts, and navigate safely using charts, tidal calculations, and modern electronic aids.
This course is perfect preparation for the RYA Day Skipper Practical course, and is suitable for those with some boating experience who are ready to develop their skills further.
