RYA Coastal Skipper Course for experienced sailors
The RYA Coastal Skipper course is designed for experienced sailors who want to take command of a yacht on longer coastal and offshore passages. Building on the skills gained at Day Skipper level, this advanced course focuses on passage planning, skippering techniques, and decision making in more challenging conditions.
Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, you’ll plan and execute coastal passages by day and night, refine your navigation and pilotage skills, and develop the confidence to take charge of a yacht and crew safely. You’ll also practise advanced boat handling in confined spaces and test your seamanship under real-life conditions.

What to expect.
With small group sizes and RYA-qualified instructors, we ensure plenty of personal coaching and hands-on experience — giving you the practical confidence to take charge of your own adventures. We generally operate a 3:1 ratio, students to instructor. If you are a group or a Family we will operate upto 5:1 by special request.
On successful completion, you’ll be awarded the RYA Coastal Skipper certificate.

Your next steps are entirely up to you. Many students choose to build on their new skills by spending more time on the water, with one of our mile builder courses being a popular option to gain further experience and confidence. Our Yachtmaster passage weeks are a popular choice giiving experience on longer passages while gaining the necessary requirements to move onto a Yachtmaster Coastal or Offshore exam.
