RYA Start Yachting Course – A Perfect Introduction to Sailing
The RYA Start Yachting course is the ideal first step for anyone curious about life at sea and eager to experience sailing for the first time. Over a relaxed and enjoyable weekend, you’ll learn the basic skills needed to crew a yacht, getting hands-on with steering, sail handling, rope work, and safety on board. No previous experience is required – just enthusiasm and a sense of adventure.
Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, you’ll gain confidence on the water and discover what sailing is all about. By the end of the course, you’ll have a solid foundation in essential seamanship and a recognised RYA certificate that can be continued towards the Competent Crew course.

If you can't find dates to suit you please get in touch, we can always add bespoke dates to suit our customers
With small group sizes and RYA-qualified instructors, we ensure plenty of personal coaching and hands-on experience — giving you the practical confidence to take charge of your own adventures. We generally operate a 3:1 ratio, students to instructor. If you are a group or a Family we will operate upto 5:1 by special request.
On successful completion, you’ll be awarded the RYA Start Yachting certificate.
Your next steps are entirely up to you. Many students choose to build on their new skills by spending more time on the water, with one of our mile builder courses being a popular option to gain further experience and confidence. Alternatively, you may decide to progress towards completing your competent crew qualification.
