FAQ
When does my trip start and finish?
All trips will start and finish at Portland marina unless specified otherwise.
You should meet at Portland marina at 09:00 on the first day and we aim to be back by 1600 on the final day (weather conditions dependant).
What Experience should I have?
Experience depends upon the course or trip being undertaken. Each of our course decriptions detail the advised minimum experience requires however if you are unsure or have any queries please get in touch.
What do I need to bring?
Warm clothes including hat, scarf, sailing gloves and thermal underwear. It is better to wear several thin layers rather than two thick layers. If you are just starting out sailing there is no need to spend huge amounts of money on expensive clothing. Even a cheap set of thermal long johns and vest will keep you warm. We carry a limited selection of waterproofs, please let us know your requirements beforehand.
Sailing boots are advisable along with deck shoes or non-marking trainers.
Don't forget a sleeping bag, pillow, sunglasses, sun cream, your wash kit, sea sickness tablets and a towel. Soft holdalls only please.
Do I require Insurance?
Infinity Yachting carry full public liability insurance for its vessels and clients, however personal travel / cancellation / accident insurance is strongly recommended.
Whats included?
Included in the cost of all trips are;
Fuel, Marina Fees, meals aboard (breakfast & lunch plus snacks, Tea, Coffee & Hot Chocolate). In the Evening we are usually moored in a beautiful marina or Quay where the opprotunity to eat ashore is taken (at own expense). On Course where a night exercise is planned we will usually cater for a meal aboard.
How many people will be on the boat?
For all RYA Sailing Courses we operate on a 3:1 ratio (3 students to 1 Instructor), this is to keep training quality and comfort at a high level. If a couple, family or group of friends book a whole course and are happy to share a cabin then the ration can be extended to 4:1 but please contact us prior to booking.
1 Day sailing trips will have a maximum of 8 clients plus the skipper.
2 & 3 day Milebuilders and 5 day adventure sails will have a maximum of 4 clients plus the skipper.
For RYA powerboating courses the ratio is 3:1 maximum.
For safety all courses require a minimum number to operate. For practical courses we normally require a minimum of 2 persons. For shorebased courses we require a minimum of 3 persons. If the course you are booked on looks like it will not meet the minimum requirement we will contact you to discuss options.
Where can I expect to go on my course / trip?
Please see specific trip information however we operate along the south coast taking in the Solent, English channel including the Channel Islands and Isles of Scilly.
Obviously destinations will depend on a number of factors including, the type of course and training being carried out, Weather, Tides, duration of trip etc.
Do you take under 18’s on trips
We do allow under 18's on courses when accompanied by a parent / guardian over the age of 18. The Minimum age we allow is 16 when accompanied by an adult over the age of 18. If you want to brings any under 16’s please discuss with us before booking.
Will I have to share a cabin
We structure our trips so everyone has an individual bed on board, for overnight trips we have a maximum of 4 clients on board, sleeping arrangement are 1 person in each aft cabin and then 2 individual bunks in the saloon. Obviously if you want to share a cabin then this is ok. We offer the option to pay a little extra to guarantee our own cabin.
